Backforplace - Place bet don't bet for the win
When you back the favorite in every race you can't show a profit, here's why.
Favorites only win approximately 33% of all races everywhere, every country. The
odds will always end up being too low and with a 33% success rate it's almost
impossible to show a profit, not without being more selective.
For every three races run, only one favorite will win. On level stakes, at best
you can only show a marginal profit over any period of time.
Now consider a backforplace situation. Consider making a bet for a Place Bet
Only. For those who live in the U.S.A. this means a Show Bet. Your horse must
come in either 1st. 2nd or 3rd to qualify.
By using good selection methods, you're chosen runner will come in either 1st
2nd or 3rd between 85% and 93% of the time. This in comparison to a favorite
coming in only 33% of the time. At least 8 out of every 10 place bets will be
successful.
It's a known fact that most punters worldwide lose. Less than 1% of punters are
successful punters, that's in all countries. Most real professional punters use
backforplace principals. They choose wisely and then back for a place bet only.
Many punters consider the place payout too low to judge worthy of making the
bet. This is a common and big mistake so many punters make. The usual line of
thought is to back favorites and increase the stakes after a loss. That's the
second big mistake. Even on level stakes and choosing the favorites wisely as
Mohammed Ali and Malcolm MacLean teach an overall profit at the end of the
year is unlikely. That's not always the case, some may achieve perhaps a 5%
profit. That's not much good to anyone really, but it is a profit all be it a
very small profit.
Selecting backforplace bets wisely, even betting on level stakes will show a
better profit than blindly backing a favorite for a win only. Consider that if
you can achieve 8 out of every 10 selections will be placed, then no matter how
low the price might be, a profit is assured. An example might be 10 selections
all paying just $1.40 and 2 lose. Two lose so you have lost $2 - Eight win, so
you have won $11.20 including your stake money. (based on $1 stakes)
It seems a small amount, and betting to level stakes it is a small amount but
it's almost an assured profit. Using other backforplace methods these winnings
can be escalated in a huge way. I've used odds of $1.40 but in general the
average will be $1.70 to $1.80. If you ever feel the price for your selection is
too low and unacceptable, then simply don't bother, leave that bet alone and
move onto the next race. You don't have to bet on every race, be selective. It's
a simple learning curve. Have patience and don't make that bet, just wait for
the next bet.
There are better ways available to increase your winnings and profit from
backforplace situations. Where you are never increasing your stake, you are
never trying to use loss recovery methods or using some kind
of progressive staking system. In some of these cases, you are
not even betting from your own betting bank. So if you hit a
loser, and from time to time you will, who cares? It's not
your money anyway, it's not from your betting bank. There is
some good useful info on this site
here which continues on from this article, click on Staking Ideas.
Using unique betting techniques, these low odds of $1.80 can be turned into odds
of 100's to 1 in your favor, with little or no risk. Multiplying $1 into $1000's
in a matter of days. But you have to think outside of the box and think further
past an accumulative bet. There is even a better way and little risk.
Most punters always back for the win and most lose. Perhaps it's prudent to look
at some proven alternative methods.
